Under the Big Top

The Pandemic is almost over and Dylan Briggs and Shay Bubbles, the Circus Manager and Ringmaster of Under the Big Top Circus, have a problem. These two life-long friends and business partners have got to get their circus up and running soon or go bust. “The Show Must Go On,” they say but how? When all of their performers quit at the start of Covid-19? How can they find enough acts to put on the Greatest Show, and fast?

In this one-week session of Summer Theatre in the Park, kids aged 8-12 will transform into a variety of familiar characters to help save Brigg’s and Bubble’s Under the Big Top circus. Using acting techniques, simple choreography, costumes and props, participants will have fun with friends as they learn how to put on a short play and build their self-confidence, and self-expression. The last day will run an extra hour to allow for a live, small-scale (workshop) performance for family and friends. “Karen is so fun and enthusiastic and passionate about helping the kids have the best experience possible.  She helps children understand the basics of participating in a performance, from the reality of getting a role, to rehearsing as a team, to preparing on their own, and then bringing their best to the production.  All the while, she is consistently positive and encouraging which makes for a really uplifting atmosphere.  I helped with several workshops because I truly enjoyed being a part of the fun!  I’ve seen very shy kids gain confidence over the years because of their participation in Karen’s workshops; they rush to join and are always eager to get to class. The several workshop performances my daughters have been a part of have been such a positive and life-guiding experience for our family!”
